Clifton, NJ lies about 15 miles to the west of New York City.  The average commute time to Manhattan is a little under  half an hour.  Clifton's population is about 85,000, which has increased both in the 2010 and 2000 census. The city is located in Passaic County, which is south of Bergen County and north of Essex County. Clifton almost surrounds the neighboring city of Passaic, bordering it on three sides. The city of Paterson is to the north of Clifton. Montclair and Nutley are to the south.

The city of Clifton, NJ is a star, seen on TV on HBO's The Sopranos and in the film Donnie Brasco.

Major highways in Clifton are Route 46 and Route 3 crossing east to west.  Both roads have large shopping districts in Clifton. Going north and south are Route 21 and the Garden State Parkway.  Main Avenue also runs north/south and is both a major thoroughfare and retail center for the Clifton community.

The city government includes 7 council members, elected at-large in a non-partisan election.  The City Council then chooses a mayor.  Long a part of the eighth Congressional District, Clifton has been in the 9th Congressional District since 2013.

Just over 100 years old, Clifton was established in 1917.
